Lake In The Hills, Illinois: Located about an hour northwest of Chicago, the Village of Lake in the Hills has been described as “an outstanding example of a well-planned community in a natural setting.” Federal Judge Walter J. La Buy started to buy property in the area and build vacation residences for his family in the 1920s.
